Naturally, players are allowed to participate in any battle - Space and Ground - that involves their faction, if they have joined one. A player that joins in a Space Battle or Ground Battle will do so using the same Combat Dice and Health Points that they would in a PvP situation. Players act the same way units do - they designate their intended target before conducting a combat roll.
Space Combat
A player may only actively inflict damage through Combat Dice if they are piloting a starfighter, freighter, or transport during the battle, and those stats are determined by the class of ship they pilot, and whether or not they have purchased upgrades to those ships. If a player is aboard a warship, they do not actively participate in the battle. On the other hand, if the player is in command of the vessel (which can only be given to faction members by the faction leaders), that particular warship is granted an additional +10 to the vessel's Combat Dice and +50 to its health points.
Ground Combat
A player involved in defending/attacking a planet during planetary conquest operates in the same way military units do. If a player is designated as a Commanding Officer by the faction leader (only faction members are able to be given this role), they grant all of their faction's units a +10 to their Combat Dice and +25 to their Health Points.
Please note - These stat modifiers DO stack if more than one Commanding Officer is present in the battles. Independent/Un-aligned Players do NOT grant any stat boosts, regardless of whether they are helping defend or attack a planet.
Escaping the Battle
To help players who want to be involved in the battle, they are allowed to Retreat from any battle if they wish to. But there are only three criteria that permit this - At the start of the battle, or if their character's health, or personal starship's health fall below 50% of their overall Health Points. Yes, if the player is in command of a warship, they too may retreat if they feel that the vessel will not be able to withstand the battle.
If a player in command of a warship finds their ship close to destruction, they may use an Escape Pod to evacuate the crippled vessel. If the player chooses this option, they automatically are brought to the planet's surface. If the player that chooses this belongs to the attacking faction, they may be picked up by one of their own warships or by another player piloting a freighter or shuttle. However - if this happens, the attacking/defending faction's fleet suffers a debuff that removes the boost initially granted by that player's presence. Think of it like a blow to moral.
